Customs
With a view to improving trade relations and the movement of goods, Armenia and the European Union are cooperating on issues relating to customs and border management.
The EU Advisory Group (EUAG) is assisting in ensuring the harmonisation and simplification of customs legislation and strengthening co-operation between customs and other agencies, especially those working at the border. In addition, modernizing the system for determining the customs value of imported goods is critical prerequisite prior to entering into a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between Armenia and the European Union.
EUAG has already been involved in a comprehensive 18-month training programme. launched in 2009, for customs auditors. Going forward, the EU Advisory Group is working with the State Customs Committee on:
- Enhancing the customs clearance process by giving advice on how to reduce/simplify paperwork, rationalise procedures and expand the scope for the submission of electronic declarations;
- Further developing the risk management system and related administrative structures;
- Developing customs' trade outreach and education processes;
- Developing the Customs Training Function;
- Developing customs operations on the borders with Turkey, Georgia and Iran as part of an integrated border management framework.
