Diplomatic School
Strengthening Armenia’s capacity for political dialogue and cooperation on foreign and security matters was what stood behind the foundation of the Diplomatic School. Opened in February 2010, the new school is helping to build a modern diplomatic service – primarily by improving the recruitment and training of diplomatic staff. The setting up of the school was supported by the European Union and other international organisations.
Prior to the school’s opening, the EU Advisory Group provided recommendations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the legal aspects and different models of diplomatic schools, on EU best practices in terms of curriculum design, on student selection procedures, on the entry examination process and on the selection of initial lecturers. Taking into account the group’s recommendations, the statutes of the Diplomatic School were devised and adopted by the Armenian government, based on the model where the Diplomatic School is a registered entity adjunct to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Currently, the EU Advisory Group is assisting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in:
- Further developing the curriculum of the Diplomatic School;
- Further recruiting distinguished international experts as lecturers;
- Upgrading the library of the Diplomatic School.
