Human Rights

Strengthening respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in Armenia, in compliance with international commitments undertaken by Armenia, has been identified as a priority in the cooperation between Armenia and the European Union.

The EU Advisory Group is working closely with the Human Rights Defender’s Office. The Group assists in:

  • Strengthening the Human Rights Defender’s institution in accordance with Paris Principles;
  • Ensuring protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms;
  • Developing the National Human Rights Protection Plan in cooperation with Armenian political and academic institutions as well as other international organisations and promoting a consultative process of drafting the National Human Rights Protection Plan;
  • Strengthening torture prevention by, amongst other things, assisting the Human Rights Defender  in structuring and organising the work of the National Preventive Mechanism under the Optional Protocol to UN Convention against Torture.
